Funny back story: Olive was passed to her fosterer, labelled as a pregnant hamster due to her chonky bottom half and aggressiveness. Her fosterer set up her cage and mostly left her alone for about 2 weeks. However, her fosterer noticed that Olive wasn’t rapidly gaining weight and didn’t seem to be nesting. After another week of observation, it was concluded that Olive was not pregnant and just fat.

Olive came from the mid-October hoarding case so she didn’t have the best start in life. She was housed with several other cage mates, which resulted in fights. Due to that, she has a hole in her left ear. Her foster family always joke that it’s because she’s vain and got a piercing hahaha

Olive really loves sleeping in her burrows so deep bedding (minimally 10cm height across the whole cage) is strongly recommended. Her burrows are her “safe place”. If potential adopters are worried about not being to see her, don’t fret! She is extremely inquisitive and peeks out from wherever she’s hiding to check what’s going on when she hears noise around her cage, or if her bedding is being ruffled.

She’s still highly cautious of hands in her cage, and will open her mouth widely to bare her teeth at you. However, once coaxed out of the cage, she becomes a sweetie who enjoys being stroked and cuddled. Don’t let her mean demeanour scare you away!

Olive also has very funny antics like standing on her hind legs and peering around curiously like a meerkat at random times of the day. She’s definitely a hamster with a lot of character and she deserves a new family that will have enough patience to bring out her sweet side!
