Requirements:

Cage: The enclosure must be an 80 cm × 45 cm unbarred cage. A Bucatstate cage is preferred. The smaller size requirement is due to his neurological issues (see below) and the enclosure must be with a safe, low-profile setup.
Food: Any approved HSS seed mix - currently on Fatpouches Standard Seed Mix
Wheel: As per HSS size requirements
Bedding: Currently on Niteangel dust-free paper bedding, but other dust-free HSS approved bedding could be used, but is subject to approval
Enrichment: As per HSS requrements - and the setup should be a simple, low-profile layout with no high platforms or unsafe climbing opportunities (fosterer can supply examples if needed)

Interested adopters should be:

  • Medical Care: Comfortable with long-term medication. Tornado is currently on Gabapentin every alternate day and will require regular vet visits approximately every 2 months, ongoing monitoring, and any adjustments to his treatment as advised by his veterinarian.

  • Commitment: Willing to provide the patience, love and lifelong care a special-needs hamster deserves.

  • Household: Quiet home, no young children.

  • Experience: Previous hamster experience required.

Profile:

Tornado is a very special little boy with a neurological condition that causes head wobbling, circling and balance issues. Despite this, he remains curious, determined and full of personality. He has learnt to adapt to his condition and enjoys exploring his enclosure in his own unique way.

One of Tornado’s favourite things to do is flop onto his back and nap as though he’s dreaming about eating all the treats in the world. Watching him reminds you that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be enjoyed.

Things to note:
Tornado has a neurological condition and requires a modified enclosure for his safety. He is currently on Gabapentin on alternate days (or as advised by his veterinarian) and will require regular veterinary reviews approximately every 2 months. His future family should be prepared for the ongoing medical care and costs associated with a special-needs hamster.
