Mio (Adopted)

Species: Campbell

Gender: Female

Estimated Age: 1 year old

Likes: Food, food, and more food! Especially mealworms, tofu, anything protein. She loves to burrow and free roam too!

Dislikes: Sudden hand movements, especially in her territory!

Mio has come a long way from the first time I got her. She was feisty and will not hesitate to nip you when your fingers come close. She did not trust humans even when food was offered. However, she has slowly opened up and is okay with head rubs and being handled!! You might even see her fall asleep as you give her head rubs. You will often see her waiting by the door and trying very hard to get out for free roam. She is a ball of energy and you can see her go crazy exploring during free roam. However, she rarely uses her wheel to run but instead, will bring her bedding onto her wheel and go to sleep.

While she is getting more comfortable with human interactions, it is still important to gain her trust slowly. You can achieve this by talking to her everyday to make your presence known and give her treats so she will associate you with something positive (but don't over do it because she is a fatty!!). She doesn’t mind getting carried or held especially if she has food in her hands so that will be the best time to bond with her. She does not bite hard anymore but she will try to nip you (gently) if she gets frustrated. Spending more time with her will allow you to recognise her behaviour better! Slowly but surely, she will be comfortable with you and I believe she has great potential to be a pancake ham!

Other than food and free roam, she enjoys burrowing a lot too. When she’s not sleeping on her wheel, it will be hard to spot her as she is somewhere underneath the bedding. She is an expert at making tunnels so it’d be good to have an acrylic/glass tank to observe her in her tunnels!

Mio is definitely a lovable ham to have!! It is a joy to watch her at work especially since she is a walking ball. Will you be the one to give her a furever home?

Requirements

Cage: It would be preferable to have a barless cage (e.g. acrylic or glass tank) as she will climb the bars and fall when she gets restless. Clear tanks will also allow you to observe her when she’s burrowing (and it’s super fun to watch).

Bedding: At least 10cm in height
