Shiba Shibbs is a jolly glutton who loves his food more than anything else. He also loves his sand area to roll around, dig around, laze around and of course, do his “business”. He does have a habit of unpouching his “savings” onto his wheels and running with it to create percussion music. Haha. His future hamparents have to note that and clean his wheels every 2-3 days. Do note that Shibbs will bite if grabbed or touched, so an experienced owner will be most ideal.

Shibbs is a very shy boy and though he may slowly inch towards your hand while you pinch a pine nut in front of him, he takes little widdle steps so be prepared to wait patiently for him. He loves sleeping on his wheel and also in weird positions, so get your camera ready.

Shiba Shibbs, along with his siblings was rescued on 12 July, the previous owner was suspected to have dyed the male roborovskis with permanent pink ink or dye. The fostering team have had the males checked at our partnered vets and they recommend close observation in the latter years as we are unable to determine the ink that was used. However, the team have ensured that Shiba and his brothers are cared for, regardless of their pink booties.

Things to note when adopting roborovskis:

1. Adopters should make sure to get a glass tank/bin cage/acrylic cage that does not have bars as roborovski hamsters are smaller and can squeeze through the gaps.

2. 1/3 of the cage should be covered with sand as roborovski hamsters tend to become excessively ‘greasy’ when an appropriately sized sand area is not given.

3. A wheel that is minimally 21cm should still be provided even if they are smaller in size as compared to dwarf hamsters.

4. They are fast and might not be suitable for children. Some may also nip/bite.

5. Taming is not guaranteed, but possible with lots of patience, time and love!
